Dzogchen Shri Singha of Portland
Dzogchen Shri Singha of Portland (DSSP) was founded in 2004 with the mission of supporting and furthering the enlightened Dharma activities of Tibetan Buddhist master, H.E. Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche in the Pacific Northwest.
Since its founding, DSSP members have participated in many beneficial activities including a weekly Dharma Path study of Khenpo Kunpal’s Commentary on Shantideva’s Entering the Conduct of the Bodhisattvas; a nation-wide search for retreat land culminating in the 2007 purchase of 160 pristine acres in Lane County, Oregon; the editing of many of Khenpo Choga’s translated writings, including books, documents, brochures and papers; the support of monastic and lay students to attend Dzogchen Retreats across the western states; and the sponsorship of countless teachings by the Precious Teacher throughout Portland, Salem and Vancouver, WA.
As a self-supported branch of the Dzogchen Shri Singha International organization, DSSP holds bi-weekly practice sessions based on Khenpo Choga’s The Buddha Path, a manual intended for the cultivation of wisdom and compassion in the Dzogchen Khadro Nyingthig tradition. The organization also participates in regional Buddhist and Tibetan festivals; provides an important cultural link to the large Tibetan community in Portland; and supports ongoing activities at the nearby Dzogchen Retreat Center outside Eugene, Oregon. Since the inception of the annual Dzogchen Internship in 2008, DSSP has concentrated on supporting the training of teachers and potential Khadro Nyingthig lineage holders.
DSSP’s officers are currently writing by-laws for the completion of the organization’s 501(c)3 non-profit status.
